ABOUT

Elise  uses recycled and found elements to produce installations, sculptures, and paintings. The relationship between physical reality and memory is investigated through these assemblages. Elise carefully observes combinations of shapes and colours in her world, which influence how she responds to her surroundings. She looks for the secret to creating an experience, from the design of corporate waiting rooms to the wallpaper of her childhood bedroom. Her artwork examines the physical value of things and textures that are connected to specific locations in our memories and experiences. She examines the distinctive qualities of these objects that give places their individuality, investigating how they affect her recollections.

Elise McDermott *New Zealand 2000* is based in Tāmaki Makaurau, with a background in fine art and design. Following her graduation from Whitecliffe College of Art and Design in 2021, she has been pursuing her creative aspirations through an internship with Parnell gallery owner Antoinette Godkin, and working in the marketing and  design sector. Elise currently maintains a studio space at ODDLY Studios, an artist-run gallery since 2021.
